The brief
ASX-listed explorer/developer Alliance Nickel (ASX:AXN) engaged SPOKE to deliver strategic communications, media and government relations support for its NiWest Project, one of Australia’s largest and highest quality undeveloped nickel-cobalt resources.
Alliance was seeking Major Project Status (MPS) from the Australian Government for NiWest in recognition of the project’s strategic critical mineral significance and ability to deliver substantial economic and employment benefits should it be developed.
Minister for Industry and Science Ed Husic awarded NiWest MPS in H1 2024, during which Spoke delivered media and ongoing government relations support.
Spoke was also instrumental in helping prepare NiWest’s Definitive Feasibility Study (DFS) in H2 2024 for publication, which involved planning and executing a comprehensive communications program to generate media coverage, investor interest and elevate the company’s profile.
Our approach
- Integrated communications across major 2024 milestones delivered a coordinated program spanning MPS awarding (May 2024) and DFS publication (November 2024), including developing key messages, drafting and pitching ASX announcements, extensive media outreach, government stakeholder coordination and preparation of investor communication and media briefing materials.
- High-level government engagement with relevant State and Federal Government Ministers, including securing ministerial commentary to support the DFS announcement and providing updates in relation to Alliance’s potential Nasdaq listing.
- Targeted media pipeline through tailoring a media hit list and precise pitching aligned with critical mineral key messages to attract media interest.
- Created media kits with compelling content and imagery to support distribution.
The results
- Enhanced investor confidence through clear communication of MPS and DFS outcomes, helping boost the Company’s share price by 85% and 27.8% respectively, and improving trading liquidity.
- Secured extensive media coverage across print and online outlets, generating more than 120 media hits: including in The Australian, The West Australian and ABC with a total combined audience reach in excess of 323 million.
- Strengthened government relationships by securing a high-value briefings between Alliance, WA Minister for Mines and Petroleum David Michael and a representative of the Premier, establishing a strong pathway for ongoing support.
- Elevated government awareness by demonstrating the economic significance of NiWest, positioning the project front-of-mind among key decision-makers amid a struggling nickel industry.
- Maintained stakeholder confidence through sustained engagement following Alliance’s announcement of a potential Nasdaq listing.
