THE BRIEF

Held annually in Fremantle WA, the RIU Explorers Conference is among the largest resources sector spectacles on the Australian event calendar.  

Partnering with conference coordinator Vertical Events, Spoke was responsible for driving media interest ahead of and during the event, as well as managing media attending and generating publicity opportunities for Companies involved. 

Desired outcomes included driving delegate attendance at the event, raising awareness of the RIU brand and the investment opportunity of some of the quality companies participating.

OUR APPROACH

At a time battery metal commodities were taking a battering, Spoke flipped this negative market sentiment into a lure for media by demonstrating how investment appetite and activity of companies operating in this space remained strong. 

Significant pre-event media interest was generated through a range of tactics including production of a short teaser video featuring participating companies talking about the impact of market conditions and what they expected from RIU Explorers. 

Spoke pre-planned, wrote and distributed two key media releases showcasing the event and the winner of the Craig Oliver Award, presented annually at the conference. 

To assist media management, Spoke established a dedicated media room that was dually used for conducting interviews as well as a secure workspace for journalists and media professionals. 

A team of dedicated media and digital media professionals from Spoke’s team also attended the three day event, ensuring activity and highlights across the three days were captured and available for publication and broadcast use. 

THE RESULTS

Profiling and promotion assisted Vertical Events post a record attendance of 2,500 over the three-day event. 

Secured extensive coverage across five days with RIU Explorers featuring in more than 170 local, national and international online articles, newspaper articles and radio news bulletins with a combined potential cross-platform reach of 1.43 billion. 

This included attracting, sourcing talent and managing news team from national broadcaster ABC TV’s 7.30 who attended the event as part of a story produced on the nickel sector. 

Secured event attendance from key mainstream, business and trade media including The West Australian, Business News, Stockhead, S&P Global and MiningNews.net. 

Produced 16 videos featuring Company executives and event organisers with an average play length of 90 seconds, distributed and seen by more than 200,000 viewers. 

Shot and collated hundreds of event photos for promotion of the event immediately after and ahead of future events.
